David Spencer
Human Capital Advisor



David Spencer is a SES Human Capital Advisor, based in Hong Kong.

David has been living, arranging transactions, and building relationships in Asia since 1990, and he has resided in: Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, India, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. He currently serves as MD of NeoCompradore, Director of Taylor's Education, Director Asia Pacific Investment Partners Mongolia, and Director of Schiff Development Macau. He is also the current Regional Chair of YPO’s South East Asia Region.


From 2005 until May, 2013, David served as a Founding Partner and MD of Emerald Hill Capital Partners, a $600mm Private Equity Fund of Funds. Prior to Emerald Hill, David spent 8 years at General Electric, where he founded and led GE’s Financial Restructuring Group, building the business to over US$8Bn from scratch. During his time at GE, David also served as Head of Business Development and M&A for GE Japan, where he and his team were instrumental in a number of key transactions, including most notably GE’s US$5.3 billion acquisition of Heller Financial Services from Mizuho Bank and its US$2.1 billion sale of Edison Life to AIG. He also served as the MD and Commercial Leader for GE Commercial Finance, at the time GE’s largest and most profitable business, with responsibility for $2.2 billion of organic growth initiatives across 11 markets in Asia. Prior to joining GE, David spent two years as a management consultant at Booz Allen based in Singapore, where he advised major financial institutions and government clients in India, Thailand and Indonesia. During business school, he completed a co-op assignment with Procter & Gamble, launching P&G’s first two products in Vietnam (Pringles & Crest) after the lifting of the US embargo. Prior to business school, David spent 5 years with Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division in Tokyo, Bangkok, and New York. While at Morgan Stanley, David helped complete nearly US$10 billion of assignments in the US and across Asia.

David holds a BS from Cornell University, an MA in International Studies (Japan/Asia) from The Lauder Institute of Management & International Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA in Finance & Entrepreneurship from The Wharton School of Business. He has achieved ACTFL-tested level 3 proficiency in Japanese and is also conversant in Bahasa Indonesian. David is an active member of Young Presidents Organization and currently serves as Regional Chair for the South East Asia Region, as well as head of the Wine Network in Asia. He is active with a number of charitable and philanthropic organizations in Hong Kong and the United States, and he is also a member of The Commanderie de Bordeaux and the Knights of Alba.
