Jeffrey Gu
Human Capital Advisor 



Beijing-based Jeffrey Gu is a SES Human Capital Advisor, supporting the SES Financial Services, Investor, Industrial, and Life Sciences Practices. Jeffrey is an influential Chinese business leader with extensive global operational and consultative experience in both China and the United States. He has served as advisor, facilitator, and joint-venture negotiator for many well-known western firms, including Credit Agricole, The Scowcroft Group, News Corp, Stanley Works, and the US-China Industrial Exchange (CHINDEX) among many others.

In 1994, Jeffrey co-founded Standard International, which became one of China's premier consulting firms, providing consultancy for Chinese H shares listing abroad; helping major western companies engage in mergers and acquisitions in China, and assisting government-linked clients such as SinoPec, Indonesia Government, Temasek, and the governments of Jiangsu and Shanghai, along with Fortune 500 companies. Prior to Standard International, Jeffrey was the Board Member and General Manager of Huiton International Trust and Investment Institute, which was known as one of Hainan Province’s first private financial institutions ever established. Huiton at its peak, was one of the leading financial institutions in China with over 200 subsidiaries and total assets under management of over RMB 20 billion. 

Jeffrey was previously China Director for the Soros Foundation in the late 1980s, engaged in philanthropic projects in China. In that capacity, he interacted with the Ford Foundation frequently in evaluating projects in China.

He began his career as the Representative of the Beijing office of Crédit Agricole S.A. (Euronext: ACA), one of the leading banks in the world. At the time, he engineered several key transactions (mainly nuclear power plants) with the Chinese Government.

Jeffrey came to the United States in 1979, studying Computer Science at Columbia University. He obtained his MS degree in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in New York.
