Technology Practice

Technology

Today, technology companies operating in Asia, both multinationals and local companies, are experiencing significant fundamental change in the region. Amongst the major economies in Asia Pacific, two notable trends have emerged in the past few years. Firstly, countries such as China have already begun to move from being tech-trend followers to leaders in many of the technological advancement fields, especially in the area of consumer internet where innovation is flourishing. Secondly, there is a big shift of focus on building an economy driven by domestic consumption, instead of export oriented. Companies operating in the region must now pursue talented leaders who know the local markets and industries, their trends and business practices, as well as possessing cultural sensitivity while ensuring right fit with the organization and its strategies.

Furthermore, Asia continues to be the core of the global technology supply chain, and has some of the fastest-growing end markets, particularly in Greater China (Taiwan, Hong Kong, and China) and India. Japan remains a significant, independent technology market; Korea is a key niche market, driven by the likes of Samsung and LG; and Southeast Asia, with Singapore as its center, continues to be a key facilitator of technology goods and services.

The Asia Pacific region, led by Greater China and Southeast Asia, remain the undisputed hub all of electronics contract manufacturing services. The vast majority of computers, notebooks, peripherals, flat panel screens, mobile devices, are produced in this region. Asia-based original design manufacturers (ODM’s), or global electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers have become multi-billion dollar corporations serving the world’s leading electronics brands.
